Leona Vicario Park in Playa del Carmen has officially reopened to the public following a major rehabilitation project funded with an investment of 6.4 million pesos. According to municipal authorities, the renovated public space is expected to benefit more than 30,000 residents.
Municipal President Estefanía Mercado led the official presentation of the renewed park, emphasizing that the project is part of her administration’s commitment to community improvement. “We’re not here to cut ribbons—we’re here to deliver on our promises to the people,” she said during the event.

The rehabilitation project included upgrades across the entire park, such as refurbished walking paths, new lighting, landscaped gardens, upgraded playgrounds, a dedicated space for local artisans, a shade structure, restored sculptures, and areas designed for inclusive family recreation. Officials said the work was guided by a vision to restore community life, strengthen social bonds, and promote peace in the heart of the city.
Mercado highlighted that the project is part of a broader initiative to link dignified public spaces with improved public safety. She pointed to the municipality’s record-breaking 1.2 billion peso investment in security—an initiative that, she noted, makes Playa del Carmen the municipality with the highest per capita investment in public safety in the country.
During the event, Mercado was presented with an oil painting as a gesture of appreciation from the local community—a token that reflects the strong connection she has built with residents during her time in office.
