As the government of Solidaridad prepares for changes, the first candidates for the historic election in Puerto Aventuras are beginning to step forward. For the first time, the citizens of Puerto Aventuras will have the opportunity to elect their mayor. Lilian Espinosa, a local teacher, was the first to announce her candidacy this Thursday, with a focus on addressing the community's pressing issues.
During a press conference, Espinosa discussed her 15-year affiliation with the mayoral office and the numerous challenges she has observed the community facing. She emphasized the urgent need for a local senior high school, as students currently have to commute to Playa del Carmen for their education. This not only presents financial hurdles but also consumes valuable time. Espinosa also underscored the lack of sufficient medical services and the absence of a Public Ministry office in the community. This lack of resources complicates crime reporting, an issue that is becoming increasingly prevalent in Puerto Aventuras, according to Espinosa.
Espinosa clarified that her primary goal is not to become the first female mayor of Puerto Aventuras, but rather to address and resolve the long-standing issues that the community faces. She affirmed her commitment to formalize her candidacy and work towards the development and well-being of the citizens.
