Majahual Businesses Build DIY Barriers to Combat Sargassum

In Majahual, local business owners have taken matters into their own hands by constructing handmade barriers from wood and nets. These barriers are designed to protect swimming areas from the threat of sargassum, a type of seaweed that could potentially disrupt tourist activities in the coastal town.

The initiative was prompted by the Marine Secretariat's inability to install the planned sargassum barriers due to unfavorable weather conditions. This proactive measure aims to lessen the seaweed's impact on the local economy, which relies heavily on tourism.

The community's response demonstrates their resilience and commitment to maintaining Majahual as a desirable tourist destination, even in the face of environmental challenges.
