A new initiative called "Made in Yucatán. Living Heritage" has been launched to promote local products and bolster the economy of Yucatán. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Mexican Institute of Entrepreneurs, Oxxo, the National Chamber of the Transformation Industry (Canacintra), and the state government. The plan includes featuring products from four Yucatán entrepreneurs in Oxxo stores.
The initiative, which kicked off in 26 stores, has the goal of gradually increasing the availability of local products in the self-service chain. Yucatán governor, Joaquín Díaz Mena, highlighted that this project is part of the Maya Renaissance program, aimed at creating shared prosperity, development, and economic growth for local producers.
Díaz Mena stated during the launch, "This is a project to elevate what is made in Yucatán. It's a commitment of my government, in partnership with the Secretary of Economic Development (Sefoet) and the Yucatán Institute of Entrepreneurs. We're going to support and propel local producers with training, guidance, and credit to provide capital."
Among the products now available in Oxxo stores are cochinita and black filling food from Mayan Food, the red egg from Chak He, Tarri-k sauces, and products from the company Pico Rey. The initiative aims to strengthen the economy of Yucatecan communities by offering a distribution channel for their products.
A call will also be made to include more local entrepreneurs in this value chain. Oxxo, which has 24,000 stores in 37 countries, began as a small enterprise in Nuevo León.
Also present at the event were representatives from the Yucatán region of Oxxo stores, Plaza Mérida de Oxxo, Canacintra, the Secretary of Economic Development, the Yucatecan Institute of Entrepreneurs, and directors of various ventures.
