Panic ensued on Monday morning due to a violent robbery at the Fundación Dondé pawnshop, located inside the Cancún Mall in Region 228. A group of at least three criminals, two men and a woman, managed to escape after the incident, discharging their firearms in the air to deter security guards.
The emergency services were alerted to the situation at 10:20 a.m. on February 10th, following reports of gunfire at the shopping mall. Upon arrival, officers from the Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) interviewed the pawnshop employees. The employees recounted that two men and a woman had entered the shop, threatened them, and proceeded to steal jewelry.
The criminals' escape was hindered when security guards attempted to corner one of the robbers outside the mall. Feeling trapped, the robber fought with the guards and fired two shots into the air, shattering the glass of the nearby Quality store. The security guards, armed only with batons, were unable to apprehend the criminals and subsequently alerted the authorities.
Two individuals at the scene suffered from nervous breakdowns and were treated by paramedics. The area was sealed off while agents from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), associated with the robbery unit, began their investigations. The Preventive Municipal Police launched a search operation for the criminals, but no arrests have been reported so far.
