Tulum is home to Mamazul, a unique mezcalería, cantina, and restaurant that boasts an impressive selection of nearly 350 different mezcal labels sourced from various regions across Mexico. Mamazul first opened its doors in 2020, amidst the pandemic, in the Aldea Zama area of Tulum. The establishment is a fusion of a traditional mezcalería and a cantina-style restaurant.

Mamazul's extensive drink menu features approximately 350 meticulously selected mezcal labels, each one chosen through a rigorous process. The manager, Ricardo Bobadilla, along with the owner, personally taste each mezcal to ensure it meets their high standards. They only offer handcrafted mezcals with a specific alcohol content, derived from various types of agave and sourced from the nine mezcal-producing regions.

The team at Mamazul is passionate about sharing the rich world of mezcal with their customers. They lament the mass production and commercialization of mezcal, where quantity often takes precedence over quality. They also express concern about the trend of inflating prices to imply quality, which undermines the profits of the producers.

Each bottle at Mamazul carries detailed information about its contents. This includes the species of agave used, the type of container used for cooking, the types of wood and grinding methods used, the containers used for fermentation, the number of distillations, the volume produced, the production date, and the name of the master mezcalero.

Ricardo Bobadilla, with his 22 years of industry experience and extensive knowledge of all food and beverage services, is a national level sommelier. He is a lover of all types of beverages and has a passion for cocktails and good food. His favorite mezcals include Cupreata from Aguerrido (Guerrero), Jabalí from Arráncame la Vida (Puebla), Cenizo from Rayo Seco (Durango), and Ciushe from Cuish (Oaxaca).

During a visit to Mamazul, guests can sample several dishes from the menu, try a couple of cocktails, and taste some of their mezcals to truly understand the essence of their concept.

Mamazul Mezcalería is located at Aldea Zama, And. Kambul between Andador Kaan and Calle Ixchel, 77760 Tulum, Q.R. To make a reservation, call +52 984 807 6724.
