The Governor of Cozumel, Mara Lezama Espinosa, has announced that the island is set to begin 2025 on a high note, with nearly 120,000 cruise tourists expected to visit during the first week of the year. This influx of visitors is expected to solidify Quintana Roo's position as a leading destination in the Mexican Caribbean for transatlantic cruise ships.
Between December 30 and January 5, it is anticipated that 34 cruise ships will dock at the island, bringing an average of 119,938 tourists. This surge in visitors is the result of a collaborative effort between the government and local businesses to showcase the island's natural beauty.
On December 28, Cancun International Airport reported 665 operations, while the Tulum "Felipe Carrillo Puerto" airport recorded its highest ever number of flights in a single day, with 56 flights.
The majority of the tourists are expected to arrive at the "Puerta Maya" terminal, which is set to receive 47,389 visitors. This will be followed by the "Punta Langosta" dock, which is expected to welcome 34,744 visitors, and the SSA Mexico dock, which is set to receive 37,805 passengers.
This increase in tourism reflects Cozumel's ongoing efforts to establish itself as a sustainable tourist destination that offers excellent service.
