In Quintana Roo, two educational programs related to the Maya Train project have been well received. One is a professional technical high school program in railway transport from Conalep, and the other is a railway engineering course from the Technological Institute of Cancun. Governor Mara Lezama discussed these developments during a press conference held on Monday, August 12.

Governor Lezama noted that the train's route will boost prosperity throughout the state, even in areas where the train doesn't physically reach, such as the island of Cozumel. This is due to the fact that passengers arriving at the Playa del Carmen station have the option to travel to the island, a major global cruise port. In the first half of this year alone, the island welcomed over 2.5 million cruisers.

"The Maya Train's Playa del Carmen station enables thousands of people to explore the incredible tourist destination of Cozumel," said the governor. She also mentioned a 16.7 percent increase in passenger traffic at Cozumel International Airport, which equates to around half a million people arriving directly on the island. She expressed gratitude to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador for his administration's work to regularize the Luis Donaldo Colosio neighborhood in Playa del Carmen, a move that will benefit approximately four thousand families.

"For many years, people lived without legal certainty about their property. This regularization is possible thanks to a president who prioritizes the social demands of those less fortunate," she said.

Governor Lezama also highlighted the significant development of tourist infrastructure in the state. She mentioned the Nichupté bridge in Cancún, which is 60 percent complete, and the Jaguar Park in Tulum, which spans over 2,900 hectares dedicated to recreation and culture. In the south, within the Mayan jungle, the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport has been built, handling nearly 670,000 passengers in 5,200 flights from December 2023 to July of this year.

"Each of these projects contributes to comprehensive development for our state, with a focus on social justice and shared prosperity," concluded the governor.
