Over the weekend, a photograph of a graffitied Maya Train carriage in Cancún, Quintana Roo, began circulating on social media. As of yet, there are no known suspects, and no action has been taken by the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), the military organization responsible for overseeing the railroad.
The graffiti was first brought to public attention by Ilegal Squad Mx, a Facebook page that sells spray paint for graffiti art. The page is based in the Centro neighborhood of Mexico City.
The Facebook post credits the graffiti to the collective Tecnoe CUR Crew, and includes a critique of the Maya Train system. The post reads, "Tecnoe CUR Crew the first to paint the Maya Train in Cancún." The post has sparked a variety of reactions online, but there has been no official response as of yet.
It's worth noting that the cost of the 42 Maya Train carriages, built by Alstom-Bombardier in Sahagún City, Hidalgo, is estimated to be 36,564 million pesos.
