President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has announced the kidnapping and subsequent release of a Maya Train engineer and his family. The engineer, his wife, and daughter were abducted on Sunday while he was working on the construction of the Maya Train.

During a press conference on Monday, President López Obrador expressed his concern about the incident. He did not reveal the exact location of the kidnapping on the Yucatán Peninsula, but he was in Yucatán over the weekend of April 27th.

In his morning address today, the president acknowledged a recent increase in homicides in Chiapas and Tabasco. In response, a thousand members of the Armed Forces have been deployed to these areas.

To enhance the security of the Maya Train, a National Guard barracks will be constructed at each station. The president stated, "There will be helicopter surveillance, we are strengthening all the security of the southeast, but not only is the Maya Train, in the (Train) Transisthmus, in the Marina.”

President López Obrador emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of violence. He stressed the need for young people to stay in school and for families to have a stable income.
