The National Defense Secretary of Mexico has lost a lawsuit over the return of an advance payment of more than 86 million pesos. The payment was made to a company contracted to supply ballast for the sixth section of the Maya Train project. The contract was rescinded due to delays in the delivery of materials.
The company, however, protested the decision and won the lawsuit. It was able to prove that the contract was terminated by a military officer who did not possess the authority to do so. The sixth section of the Maya Train project, which stretches from Tulum to Chetumal, has experienced delays in its completion.
Despite these setbacks, the passenger train is already operational, though the infrastructure is not yet fully completed. The former President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, rushed to hand over part of the project during his final days in office. It was only in December that the current President, Claudia Sheinbaum, managed to activate more than 200 kilometers of the track.
Meanwhile, on January 2, the Superior Chamber of the Federal Court of Administrative Justice (TFJA) issued a final ruling on an administrative lawsuit. The ruling was not in favor of the Army, meaning they will not be able to recover a significant amount due to the breach of contract.
