“Maya Train Project: Latest Construction Updates in Playa del Carmen”

The Maya Train project in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, is advancing, but it is evident that there are still some key requirements missing, such as traffic signals and paving.

The project is located along an extension of Juarez Avenue towards the city's prison. While the work is progressing, there are no signs at the entrance to the area to guide vehicles and ensure the safety of the construction workers. The four-kilometer stretch where the work is being carried out poses a risk to motorists and workers alike, as the road lacks public lighting and signage.

Significant progress can be seen in the area where the Maya Train bridge is being constructed. The bridge is nearly complete, and workers are now clearing the way to align the side road.

Traffic along Juarez Avenue becomes particularly congested on days when relatives visit the prison, according to a laborer named Edgar Canto. He noted that despite the project's proximity to ranches, the number of heavy trucks on such a narrow road has led to several accidents. Canto explained that this is the route the train will take to connect the north of Quintana Roo, and it will be the last bridge in Solidaridad. Beyond this point, the train will pass through another community and the "White Lady" cenote.

Canto also revealed that the situation on Juarez Avenue is further complicated by the fact that the Maya Train is not the only construction project currently underway. This has resulted in an influx of dump trucks.

The Cadu company is also working on a potable water connection at the entrance of the Playa del Carmen prison, leading to trucks parking in front of it to access the excavation site. Additionally, drivers transporting natural gas use Juarez Avenue, adding to the traffic.

Despite these challenges, there are very few workers assigned to manage traffic in this complex area. Canto mentioned that while the bridge is nearly complete, work is still ongoing to finish the sides of the structure and lay the rails. In the Villas del Sol neighborhood, steel structures have already been delivered and will soon be installed.
