Dangerous Debris: Mayan Train Construction Wreaks Havoc

First responders at a nighttime emergency scene with an ambulance, a person using a smartphone, and medical equipment on the ground.

A man is now hospitalized after crashing into a pile of material left by the Mayan Train's construction trucks on a federal highway near Bacalar. This incident is just one of many caused by the hazardous mounds of debris left unattended by the construction crews.

Despite numerous reports of the dangers posed by these piles of material, the construction managers have failed to address the issue. The mounds of debris, left by the Mayan Train's dump trucks, have resulted in an increase in accidents on the road.

During daylight hours, these piles can be seen near the blue cenote and towards Cancun, by the junction to Reforma. However, at night, they become a serious hazard due to the lack of warning signs. As a result, drivers of cars and motorcycles often crash into them.

Local residents have repeatedly called for authorities to intervene, but their pleas have been ignored by those overseeing the federal project. Consequently, many have resorted to seeking alternative routes at night, even if it means facing more danger or consuming more gas. Despite the risks, the residents are willing to take these measures to avoid the hazardous conditions on the main road.
