Mayan Train Jobs Trump Electoral Roles in Pay Battle

The Quintana Roo Electoral Institute is grappling with the challenge of hiring over 800 citizens for the roles of supervisor and assistant electoral trainer. This comes just one month before the election, despite having released up to 10 job postings for the northern districts of the state.

Currently, only 80 percent of the required citizens have been hired to notify and train those who will serve as polling station officials. Despite this shortfall, the trainers already hired have doubled their efforts. Through night shifts and rotating across different districts, they have achieved 90 percent of the necessary work to form over 2,500 boards of directors for the polling stations.

The majority of those who used to participate in these electoral processes are now working on the Mayan Train project, as it offers more competitive wages. The goal was to have more than 600 applicants for the trainer and electoral supervisor roles by this time. However, only 350 registered, and of that number, only 200 showed up.

Despite these challenges, there is confidence that the hiring of officials for the electoral process will be completed in time.
