Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo, September 20, 2024 – Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde has been working tirelessly over the past three years to enhance the safety and security of the island's residents. Her efforts have resulted in a noticeable improvement in the community's peace of mind and trust in local authorities.
When Mayor Gómez Ricalde first took office, the municipality was in the midst of a severe security crisis, with insufficient resources and equipment to address the problem. Despite these challenges, she has successfully transformed Isla Mujeres into one of the safest municipalities in Quintana Roo.
A variety of measures were taken to bolster security, including increasing the number of police patrols and officers, providing continuous and specialized training, and expanding the use of security cameras. These cameras are monitored from the Control and Monitoring Center (C2), which has been modernized and expanded with the latest technology.
In addition to these initiatives, Mayor Gómez Ricalde has also standardized police salaries and regularly provided uniforms and equipment. She has overseen the rehabilitation and construction of security booths in local neighborhoods.
"We have improved the facilities of the General Directorate of Citizen Security, including a new plaza for ceremonies and civic tributes, and a new Police House with full amenities, as well as expanded the C2," said Mayor Gómez Ricalde.
She emphasized that these improvements in citizen security were made possible through the combined efforts and coordination of all levels of government. This collaboration has resulted in a safer and more peaceful municipality for all residents.
