At an impressive 114 years old, Mérida's Centenario Zoological Park continues to rise to the challenges of animal conservation. The park is dedicated to the care and preservation of its resident wildlife, continuously striving to improve their living conditions.

The Centenario is home to over 600 animals, representing 80 different species. Among the park's residents are giraffes, lions, tigers, zebras, and hippos. The park takes great care to maintain the ecosystems of these animals, leading to successful breeding of species such as the Barbary sheep and zebra. Despite some criticisms regarding the appearance of certain areas, experts confirm that the animals are living in good conditions.

The park also houses the white-tailed deer, an iconic species of the region that is currently under threat due to hunting and high demand. Bird species found in the park include the pink flamingo, green macaw, red macaw, and ostriches. The park is also preparing to reintroduce ocelots, which will be preserved for future exchanges with other zoos. A crucial element of the park is its on-site veterinary hospital, which plays a key role in the conservation of the park's inhabitants.

The Centenario is currently focusing on enhancing its enclosures and improving visitor experience. Its team of 114 dedicated employees work tirelessly to ensure the smooth operation of the park and the well-being of its animals.
