The Mexican Caribbean is emerging as a popular hub for both domestic and international tourists. The region is continually enhancing its air connectivity to provide a seamless travel experience for visitors. With a range of options to explore the diverse landscapes of Quintana Roo, the region's connectivity is a vital component of its tourism infrastructure.

There are four international airports in the region – Chetumal, Cancun, Cozumel Island, and the newly opened Tulum. These airports connect Quintana Roo with 108 global destinations through 49 airlines. These include Aeromexico, Volaris, Viva Aerobus, Aerus, Mexicana de Aviación, American Airlines, Delta, United, Air Canada, Avianca, Turkish Airlines, British Airways, KLM, Iberia, Copa, JetBlue Airways, Lufthansa, and Air Europa.

As of May 2024, Quintana Roo had connections with 108 domestic and international destinations. These include 24 locations in Mexico, 35 cities in the United States, 18 in Canada, 15 in Europe, and 16 in Central, Caribbean, and South America.

New routes to Tulum have been added recently. Starting December 2024, Lufthansa – Discover Airlines will operate a new flight from Frankfurt to Tulum. Copa Airlines has also launched a flight from Panama. American Airlines has expanded its routes from Dallas, and Jet Blue is now operating flights from New York to the new airport. Air Canada also operates flights from Toronto and Montreal.

This summer will see the addition of a flight from McAllen to Cancun, starting in July, operating twice a week. Monterrey has also introduced a permanent direct flight to Cozumel via Viva Aerobus. Since May, Aerus has been operating flights connecting Cancun with Cozumel and Chetumal.

Between June 8 and 14, 2024, the four airports in Quintana Roo handled a total of 3,959 air operations. Of these, 3,511 were for Cancun, 224 for Tulum, 166 for Cozumel, and 58 for Chetumal. This increase in air connectivity provides more options for both Mexican and international tourists, making the Mexican Caribbean and its 12 destinations a preferred choice for travelers.
