Cancún, Quintana Roo — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum arrived at Cancún International Airport on Friday, April 25, 2025, where she was greeted by Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama. The president’s visit marks the beginning of a working tour of the Riviera Maya, focused on advancing the federal government’s Vivienda del Bienestar (Housing for Well-Being) program and overseeing key infrastructure developments.

Housing Initiative to Build 36,000 Homes in Quintana Roo

During her stay, President Sheinbaum will officially launch Vivienda del Bienestar, a joint initiative by the National Housing Commission (CONAVI) and INFONAVIT aimed at constructing 36,000 affordable homes in the southeastern state. The program targets low-income families currently lacking access to adequate housing.

Governor Lezama expressed enthusiasm for the president’s visit on social media, highlighting the significance of the housing program’s rollout and the ceremonial start of freight train operations toward Progreso, Yucatán.

Warm Welcome from Supporters

Upon her arrival, President Sheinbaum was met by dozens of supporters outside Cancún International Airport, many of whom sought to greet her personally. The president took time to acknowledge the crowd, posing for photos with airport staff and travelers inside the terminal.

Agenda Includes Infrastructure Inspections in Yucatán

Following her engagements in Quintana Roo, President Sheinbaum will travel to Yucatán on Saturday, April 26, to oversee progress on the Tren Maya freight rail line and inspect expansion work at the Port of Progreso.

The visit underscores the federal government’s commitment to infrastructure development and social welfare programs in Mexico’s southeastern region.
