Mexico's President, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, is currently touring the Yucatán Peninsula to oversee the progress of the Maya Train project. His first stop was Campeche, following his arrival at the "Ing. Alberto Acuña Ongay" International Airport.
He then proceeded to the "San Francisco Campeche" Station where he met with Campeche's Governor, Layda Sansores San Roman. After their meeting, he continued his journey to the municipality of Calkiní. The Federal Government has been tight-lipped about the specifics of the President's itinerary, potentially due to the ongoing electoral process in the country.
Despite the secrecy, the President was seen at the "Calkiní" Station. Local residents took the opportunity to greet him as he toured the streets of the Real Way municipality. Following his visit to the station in Calkiní, the President boarded a van from the Maya Train project to travel overland to Nuevo Uxmal National Park. This park is the site of a hotel that is currently under construction as part of the Maya Train project.
