“Exclusive: Mexico’s Stolen Treasures Return Home!”

Repatriated cultural artifacts displayed on a table with official seals of Homeland Security Investigations and the Mexican flag in the background.

The Mexican Government has successfully reclaimed 35 archaeological artifacts of Mexican origin from the United States Department of Homeland Security. The handover was facilitated through the Consulate in Seattle. As per the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), these artifacts are legally owned by Mexico under existing laws. The artifacts, originating from the Cintalapa region in Chiapas and dating back to the Mesoamerican Classic period (100 – 600 AD), are a valuable testament to the nation's rich cultural history.

Héctor Iván Godoy Priske, the Consul in Seattle, underscored the significance of these artifacts as integral to Mexican cultural heritage and applauded their return to the country. This move reflects the commitment of both Mexico and the United States to preserving historical heritage and fostering international cooperation. The successful return of these artifacts is the result of the joint efforts of both countries, particularly the Mexican Consulate in Seattle.
