“Mexico’s Tourism Boom: 34.3 Million Hotel Guests Flood In!”

Mexico's Ministry of Tourism reported that 34.3 million tourists checked into hotels in the first five months of 2024. The data, released on Sunday, revealed that of this total, around 24.5 million were domestic tourists, accounting for 71.4% of the total. The remaining 9.8 million were international visitors, making up 28.6% of the total.

The data was collected from 70 different tourist centers by DataTur. Miguel Torruco, the head of the Ministry of Tourism, shared that from January to May 2024, cities saw about 19.6 million tourists in hotel rooms, while beach destinations welcomed approximately 14.7 million visitors.

During this period, hotel occupancy across the 70 destinations was 60.3%, consistent with the same period the previous year. Furthermore, Torruco reported that city destinations recorded a hotel occupancy rate of 52.6% from January to May, marking a 0.9% increase compared to the same period in 2023.
