As the current government's term comes to an end and a new administration prepares to take over, Mexico's National Action Party (PAN) has called on incoming president Claudia Sheinbaum to forge her own path, free from the errors of her predecessor, and to work for the benefit of the Mexican people.
Marko Cortés Mendoza, the national president of PAN, urged Sheinbaum to set a fresh course, untainted by the mistakes of the previous administration. "Citizens are crying out for real change. We cannot allow the same patterns of irrationality, division, death, and corruption that we have endured during this term to persist," Mendoza stated.
The PAN leader encouraged the new administration to abandon policies that have led to the country's decline and to restore trust in government institutions. He criticized the current administration's ineffective security policy of "hugs, not bullets," which has resulted in more than 198,000 intentional homicides in the country. This figure is nearly double the number of homicides that occurred during the term of Enrique Peña Nieto.
Mendoza also accused the current president, López Obrador, of decimating the healthcare system, leaving 50 million Mexicans without access to healthcare.
In light of these challenges, Mendoza expressed hope that the new administration will chart a different course, one based on dialogue, consensus-building, transparency, and social justice. "Let's start a new chapter. This is the hope not just of PAN or the opposition, but of all citizens. We expect the country to take the right path towards peace and progress," he concluded.
