A Michelin Star is a coveted award given to restaurants that offer exceptional food. Five key aspects are evaluated: the quality of ingredients, the harmony of flavors, the mastery of technique, the chef’s personality as expressed through their cooking, and consistency over time and across the entire menu.

The awarding of Michelin stars is decided by anonymous inspectors, who are former professionals from the restaurant and service industry. These inspectors dine at a restaurant multiple times to ensure consistent quality, and then collectively decide whether to award a star.

Any restaurant, regardless of its style or type of cuisine, can aim for Michelin stars. Restaurants already listed in the Michelin Guide are re-evaluated periodically, while new restaurants can apply for inclusion.

In this inaugural edition, the Michelin Guide recognized 157 culinary gems in Mexico.
