87 Mexican Hotels Awarded Michelin Guide Excellence

The Michelin Guide, four years after beginning its hotel selection process, has announced its top picks for Mexican hotels. The hotels are awarded one, two, or three Keys, with a total of 87 Mexican hotels making the grade for the 2024 Michelin Guide.

The selection includes three hotels with three Keys, 21 with two Keys, and 63 with one Key. These Mexican hotels are now part of a global list of over 5,000 accommodations deemed exceptional by the Michelin Guide. The selection is based on five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for money, and contribution to the guest's experience in a specific environment.

The three Mexican hotels that earned the coveted Three Keys are Xinalani and One&Only Mandarina, both located on the Pacific coast, and Essencia, situated on the Mexican Caribbean. Other notable one Key coastal hotels include Bellview Boutique Hotel, Casa Kimberly, and Hacienda San Angel in Puerto Vallarta, Playa Viva in Zihuatanejo, and Zoa Hotel in Oaxaca.

In the Yucatan Peninsula, mini-resorts such as Be Tulum and Casa Chablé in Tulum, as well as the Waldorf Astoria Cancun, have been recognized. Also on the list is Essencia in Playa del Carmen, one of Mexico’s Three Key hotels.

The guide also includes mansions from various parts of Mexico. These include Grana B&B in Oaxaca city, Pug Seal Allan Poe in Mexico City, and Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende. Several establishments in Cabo San Lucas, such as Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection, Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection, Montage Los Cabos, and the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, were also awarded.

Other recognized hotels include Chablé Yucatan in Chocholá, Las Alamandas in Costalegre, Playa Viva in Juluchuca, and Casa Polanco in Mexico City. In Playa del Carmen, Banyan Tree Mayakoba, Etéreo, Auberge Resorts Collection, Palmaïa-The House of AïA: All Inclusive Wellness Resort, and the Rosewood Mayakoba were acknowledged.

In Punta Mita, Susurros del Corazón, Auberge Resorts Collection, and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita received recognition. In San Jose del Cabo, Las Ventanas al Paraiso, A Rosewood Resort, One&Only Palmilla Resort, and Zadun, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve were awarded. In San Miguel de Allende, Casa de Sierra Nevada, A Belmond Hotel, San Miguel de Allende was recognized.

Other notable mentions include Casa Silencio in San Pablo Villa de Mitla, Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya in Solidaridad, and Casa Chablé in Tulum. With one Key, Banyan Tree Cabo Marqués was highlighted in Acapulco, along with Boca de Agua Bacalar, Casa Hormiga, and Our Habitas Bacalar in Bacalar. In Holbox, Nomade Holbox was recognized, as was Cala de Mar Resort & Spa Ixtapa in Ixtapa, and Decu Downtown, Hotel CIGNO, Hotel Sureño, and TreeHouse Boutique Hotel in Mérida.
