The town hall of Puerto Morelos has come under scrutiny for its alleged misuse of funds. The current municipal president, Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, is facing criticism for authorizing nearly three million pesos for the construction of sidewalks in a local neighborhood during her second term.

The contract, identified as MPM-SOSPM-DGOP-RF-003-2024 and issued on May 3, 2024, was awarded to Operadora Luvarom. The company was tasked with building sidewalks and curbs in the La Fe neighborhood. The 60-day project had a total budget of $2,708,308.49, taxes included.

However, the amount spent does not seem to correlate with the work done on the streets, raising concerns about the town hall's management of funds. The lack of visible progress is particularly concerning given that La Fe is a neighborhood without even basic paving. This discrepancy has led to speculation about possible diversion of resources, a practice which some suggest is endorsed by the Mayor herself.

This is not the first time Operadora Luvarom has been awarded a contract in the area. Previously, the company received a single contract worth more than $12,662,506.56 under the administration of Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz. The recurrence of such high-value contracts with little visible results has raised questions about the town hall's financial practices.
