Summer holidays conclude with significant tourist influx.
CANCUN – The summer vacation season ended with a significant influx of tourists, reporting more than three million tourists in all the destinations of Quintana Roo, a figure that exceeds the initial goal of 2.6 million projected by the tourist authorities.
The Cancun International Airport reported a total of 439 operations this Sunday. Of the 220 arrivals, 89 of were national flights and 131 international. 219 departures were recorded of which 87 were national and 132 international.
The Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo (SECTUR) reports that more than 120 thousand travelers are currently in the touristic destinations of Quintana Roo. The result is an average hotel occupancy of 60% (Cancun 60.5%, Puerto Morelos 59% and Isla Mujeres 63.4%) The Association of Hotels of the above mentioned municipalities, report 195 hotels operating with a total of 49,669 rooms occupied and 12 hotels closed with 1,301 rooms that failed to reactivate during this holiday period.
The two most important tourism markets for Quintana Roo are the United States and Mexico. Among the international destinations, Atlanta, Bogotá, Caracas, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Istanbul, Philadelphia, Frankfurt, Guatemala, Hartford, Houston, Lima and Lisbon stand out thanks to the air connectivity that the state’s airports have with 80 cities in the world.
The international airlines that operated this Sunday are: Air Canada, Air Portugal, Air Transat, Alaska, American, Avianca, British, Cóndor, Conviasa, Copa, Delta, Frontier, Iberojet, Jet Blue, Laser, Latam, Spirit, Viva Air, Wingo and West Jet, among others.
