Today, we gather to kick off a month that represents the essence of our Mexican identity," said municipal president, Ana Paty Peralta, during the raising of the national flag. This marks the start of the 2024 national holidays, which will comprise eight events throughout the month.

Peralta emphasized that national symbols like the anthem and flag are more than just emblems. They embody the history, struggles, and ideals that guide Mexicans. She stated that loving Mexico is not just about wearing the national colors of green, white, and red, but honoring the nation every day through acts of civility, responsibility, and commitment.

Peralta affirmed that the best way to honor the heroes of our past is to instill in the younger generations a love and respect for our Mexican heritage. She reiterated that Cancun needs more united, strong, and solid families.

She expressed that the 214th anniversary of the start of Mexico's Independence should be a time for reflection and pride, and a chance to renew our commitment to building a more prosperous future for Mexico. This commitment, she said, is not just celebrated in September, but in every action we take every day.

During the ceremony, the pledge to the flag was led by Ana Cristina Nic Caballero, a student at the "Juan de la Barrera" Middle School, while the Mexican National Anthems were performed by the Municipal Band.

The event, marking the start of the national celebrations, was attended by authorities from all three levels of government, students from local schools, and public servants from the Municipal Palace.
