In Cancún, a city in the municipality of Benito Juárez, Quintana Roo, a woman and her 10-year-old son tragically lost their lives in a recent armed attack. Reports indicate that two men on a motorcycle fired at the family's vehicle while they were visiting this popular Mexican Caribbean tourist destination.

The victims' grandmother, who was holding a 3-year-old girl at the time of the attack, was rushed to the General Hospital of Cancún. She was in the back seat of a white Pontiac car when the attack occurred. The traumatic event caused her to suffer a nervous breakdown, and she was unwilling to release the young girl from her grasp.

The Quintana Roo Attorney General's Office has launched an investigation into the aggravated homicide of the woman and her son. The incident occurred on Wednesday night and the main focus of the investigation is whether the attack may be linked to fraudulent land sales in irregular neighborhoods within the municipality.

According to international agency EFE, the family was returning home around 10:00 PM on Wednesday night after buying toys at a supermarket. It was during this journey that the two men on a motorcycle pulled up next to their vehicle and began firing from the right side. The incident happened at the intersection of 20 de Noviembre and Chac Mool avenues, in region 215, near the Los Héroes subdivision, a well-known area of Cancún.

Members of the National Guard, the Navy Secretariat, and the State and Municipal Police were dispatched to the scene to secure the area and begin their investigations. Local police have released images from their surveillance system showing the attackers on a motorcycle. One of the men was seen wearing a blue t-shirt and helmet, while the other was dressed in black and wearing a balaclava. The two men fled the scene following the fatal shooting of the woman and child.
