Heartbroken Mom Searches Two Years for Missing Daughter

Deysi Blanco Chi, mother of Fernanda Cayetana, has been searching for her daughter who disappeared two years ago in Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo. Despite two suspects being identified, Fernanda's whereabouts remain unknown. Deysi is determined to find her daughter, no matter what the circumstances.

She recalls the joy-filled life they led before Fernanda's disappearance, a life that has since been replaced with a void. "We are the living dead. We learn to live with the pain day by day. Our hearts are shattered. People may see us laugh and talk, but they don't know the grief and pain we carry inside," she says.

Two years after her daughter's disappearance, Deysi still questions why it had to be her innocent 12-year-old daughter. "Why does someone have to come and rob her of her childhood?" she asks, her voice choked with emotion.

Every day begins with thoughts of Fernanda – if she has had breakfast, if she is being mistreated, where she might be. These thoughts fuel Deysi's determination to find her daughter. "I am not looking for those to blame, I just want her to be returned to me," she insists.

Peace eludes Deysi, especially during the tormenting nights. She spends these hours checking social media, hoping to find a message, an image, or a clue that could lead her to Fernanda. Her other three children, now adults and married, also mourn Fernanda daily, blaming themselves for not protecting their sister.

Fernanda is remembered as a good, respectful girl at home and in school. "She is reserved with her friends, but also a charismatic girl who likes to dance and make jokes. She always expresses herself straightforwardly, with sincerity," Deysi recalls. She adds that Fernanda was an excellent student who never caused any trouble at school.

Deysi still keeps Fernanda's school uniforms, a painful reminder of her missing daughter, especially as a new school year approaches – a year Fernanda won't be able to attend.

The last time Deysi saw Fernanda was on July 18, 2022, at a supermarket. They were approached by a woman, now identified as the wife of Marco Antonio C, a suspect in Fernanda's disappearance. The woman lured Fernanda away with the promise of a cellphone. Despite the identification of the suspects, Fernanda remains missing, and her family's search continues.
