Motorcyclists in Quintana Roo need to gear up for the impending Vest Law. This law, which first gained attention in 2024, mandates motorcyclists to adhere to a set of guidelines issued by traffic authorities. The primary aim is to provide more transparency around their personal data. The law is a response to the growing use of motorcycles across the country and is designed to enhance safety and order, especially given the rise in crimes committed using motorcycles.

Despite the buzz around the Vest Law in Quintana Roo, many details remain unclear. Questions like, "What exactly does this new law entail?" and "When will the Vest Law take effect?" are still being asked. This article aims to clarify these doubts, so you're not caught off guard when it's implemented.

So, what exactly is the Vest Law and what does it entail? The law stipulates that all motorcyclists in the state must wear vests displaying their license plate number. Additionally, they are required to put identification stickers on their helmets. The Government Secretary, Cristina Torres Gómez, stressed that these measures are intended to enhance road safety and reduce crimes involving motorcycles. She stated, "We will soon issue the regulations and continue to educate people about the significance of this measure. The majority of motorcyclists have understood its importance, and we are making progress."

When will the Vest Law take effect? The law is slated to take effect at the end of March, following the publication of regulations modifying article 218 Bis of the Mobility Law in the Official State Gazette, as reported by the Government Secretary. In preparation for this new law, the Government, led by Mara Lezama, has announced that it will begin distributing vests and stickers to registered motorcyclists.
