Accompanied by various municipal authorities, the mayor recalled, while cutting the ribbon, that the “Leona Vicario” library is historic as it was the first library to be created in Solidaridad. It was of utmost importance, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, to strengthen this space in order to contribute to the integral formation of the citizens.
“Without culture and education there can be no possible social transformation. That is why it is up to us to continue promoting reading and the participation of girls, boys, adolescents and of any age in the study and literary activities that we have carried out,” she added.
Head of the Directorate of Education and Libraries, Elsy Chí Cauich, mentioned that for the reopening of this space, guidelines have been followed to provide safe service, protecting the health and well-being of all. Users must maintain a healthy distance of 1.5 meters at all times and the use of masks and antibacterial gel is required.
The rehabilitation of this historic building included the renovation of the floor, bathrooms and outdoor space. Actions have also been carried out to improve and provide better equipment for the other two libraries in the Municipality of Solidaridad, “Jaime Torres Bodet”, located in the Colosio neighborhood, and the “Ángeles Mastretta” library, located in Puerto Aventuras.
Under strict sanitary measures, the event was held outdoors in the park of the “Leona Vicario” library, with children, young people and adults in attendance, who enjoyed a children’s story by Gabriela Guerrero Cervera and a performing arts show by the group “Alebrijes”.
