The Mexican Navy, acting as the Coast Guard through the Ninth Naval Region, recently conducted a medical evacuation of a man off the coast of Quintana Roo.

The rescue operation was initiated after an emergency call was received from the Thirteenth Naval Zone in Yukalpetén, Yucatán. The call requested the medical evacuation of a 30-year-old Mexican man who had sustained a severe metatarsal fracture in his right foot. The man was aboard a fishing vessel located approximately 30 nautical miles (55 kilometers) north of Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo.

In response to the emergency and with the goal of preserving human life at sea, a Coast Guard Patrol performing maritime surveillance intercepted the fishing vessel to provide initial medical care. A Defender type vessel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Surveillance Station (ENSAR) in Isla Mujeres was also immediately dispatched. The vessel, carrying specialized rescue personnel, reached the site of the emergency and carried out the medical evacuation.

The injured man was transported to Puerto Juárez, Quintana Roo, where he was transferred to a private ambulance and taken to a local hospital for specialized medical treatment.

For sea emergencies, the Ninth Naval Region has provided the public with the contact number: 998 877 0186. For public complaints, the contact number is 998 390 0437. Additionally, the Secretariat of the Navy has shared the following contact number: 800 MARINA (800 627 462).
