A new access portal is set to be constructed in Playa del Carmen. The city's Municipal President, Estefanía Mercado, recently oversaw the commencement of the project. The portal is designed to enhance the city's entrance aesthetically and bolster security with a comprehensive video surveillance system. The primary objectives of this initiative are to enhance accessibility, improve urban aesthetics, and boost road safety at the city's access points. The project will also include a comprehensive surveillance camera system to ensure the safety of residents and visitors alike.
The new portal will be situated at the city's northern entrance, on the road leading to Puerto Morelos. It will be equipped with advanced security technology, including high-tech cameras compatible with the C4 system, facial recognition readers, speed radar, speed reducers, and an RFID reader for vehicle control. The structure will stand 13 meters tall, with a free height of seven meters, and columns measuring eight by 10 meters at the base. The portal will span 40 meters across the road.
The project, costing just over 40 million pesos, is funded by the Environmental Sanitation Financing and will benefit over 333,000 residents. Apart from improving security and enhancing the city's appearance, the project will also contribute to better mobility in the area by optimizing vehicle flow at one of the city's key access points. The municipal government hopes that this infrastructure will provide a more organized and secure access point, catering to the city's growth and evolving needs.
