A significant discovery has been made at the X´baatún archaeological site. A team of archaeologists from Mexico and Spain unearthed a palatial structure and several residential platforms during their excavation in the area.
The team discovered a 12-meter-tall building, complete with intricate construction details, stairs, access points, and a looting well at the top. This finding has allowed for an update to the map of this pre-Hispanic site, which was first recorded in the Archaeological Atlas of Yucatan in 1980.
Drone flights have played a crucial role in these explorations. They have enabled the location of elite platforms near the wall, and a topographical survey of the area has already commenced. This new discovery brings a fresh perspective to our understanding of the historical significance of the X´baatún archaeological site.
