27th Annual Nichupté Lagoon Clean-Up Day in Cancún A Success

The annual Canal Clean-Up Day at the Nichupté Lagoon in Cancún was held for the 27th year in a row. This event was organized by Aquaworld, in partnership with the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp) and the Nautical Associates of Quintana Roo. The clean-up is part of an ongoing commitment to protect and preserve the environment, with a specific focus on reducing pollution in one of the region's most vital ecosystems.

The clean-up team consisted of 52 individuals, including Aquaworld employees, Conanp representatives, members of the Nautical Associates, and their family members. The team was divided into two groups to ensure both the water and land areas of the lagoon were thoroughly cleaned. One group was responsible for collecting trash from within the canal, while the other group concentrated on removing waste from the banks and mangroves. This strategy ensured that both floating debris and waste trapped in vegetation were effectively removed.

The team managed to collect a total of 121 kg of waste, which was then sorted for proper disposal and recycling. Beyond the physical clean-up, the day also served as a chance to raise awareness within the community about the importance of preserving local ecosystems and protecting biodiversity.
