Breaking: Explosions Rumors in Playa del Carmen & Cozumel Debunked!

The Quintana Roo State Coordination of Civil Protection has dispelled rumors of an explosion in the Riviera Maya region, specifically in Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. These rumors were widely circulated on social media. The agency issued a statement on Thursday, May 9, 2024, explaining that they had consulted with various government bodies to investigate the claims made on digital platforms. They found no evidence of any explosion or disturbance in the Solidaridad and Cozumel areas.

The agency further stated that all institutions and specialists under its supervision reported no record of any explosion in the region, including Playa del Carmen, Xcaret, or Calica, located in the municipalities of Solidaridad and Cozumel. They confirmed this after consulting with federal, state, municipal, and security representatives.

Despite rumors of a possible earthquake in the Riviera Maya region, the agency did not comment on these claims. Instead, they assured the public that they would continue to monitor the situation closely and carry out patrols to ensure the safety of the residents of Quintana Roo.
