“Uncovering the Environmental Crisis in Playa Del Carmen: Lawyer Warns of Looming Devastation”

During a recent press conference, lawyer Javier Tun Jimenez discussed the mission of his association to combat the rapid deforestation in Playa Del Carmen. This deforestation is primarily due to the creation of subdivisions and housing developments.

Tun Jimenez highlighted the "chunes" area, which is experiencing significant population growth. Given its close proximity to Tulum International Airport, Section 5 of the Maya Train terminal, and the Muyil archaeological site, it could potentially become a new municipality. Despite this rapid growth, the municipalities of Tulum and Felipe Carrillo Puerto have yet to establish an Urban Development Program or Territorial Ecological Planning Program.

Tun Jimenez warned that this population boom could lead to severe contamination of the aquifer and irreversible devastation of natural resources unless measures are taken to control the situation. His association aims to protect this area of the state from real estate "opportunists" who are driving this rapid growth.

In response to this surge in development, the businesspeople within the association are striving to transform Muyil into a "world-class rural paradise". Tun Jimenez emphasized that due to its proximity to federal works, Muyil is likely to increase in value and could become the next municipality of Quintana Roo in the medium to long term.
