The fourth and final phase of the tree planting project on La Selva Avenue in Tulum was completed on Monday afternoon. This initiative was led by Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo's administration, with the aim of preserving the environment and enhancing the city's aesthetic appeal. The General Directorate of Sustainable Urban Territorial Development, the Directorate of Environmental Sustainability, and the Environmental Network coordinated the reforestation efforts. Over 100 native species trees were planted in this phase, contributing to the ecological enhancement of the municipality.
The tree planting project began its third phase in January and continued into February with the fourth phase. In total, over 200 trees have been planted. The purpose of these efforts is to foster environmental consciousness within the community and bolster the reforestation of urban areas.
Armando Angulo, the Director of Environmental Sustainability, stated, "We are working to enhance the appearance of the municipality's streets. La Selva Avenue is a crucial part of this reforestation process, with about 50 volunteers involved."
The event was attended by several notable figures from the environmental and social sectors, including Alejandra Orozco, Director of the Zamná Foundation; Naci Vargas, Director of the Akumal Sanctuary Foundation; Miguel Martínez, Head of Operation of the Environmental Network; and Jorge Armando Angulo, Director of Environmental Sustainability.
These efforts underscore the municipal government's dedication to environmental preservation and the enhancement of Tulum's green infrastructure. The aim is to promote urban spaces that are more sustainable and harmonious with nature.
