“Boosting Security: 252 Cameras to Safeguard Cozumel in 2024”

Cozumel's tourism sector has announced plans to install 252 surveillance cameras across the island as part of a comprehensive security strategy for 2024. The Secretary of Citizen Security, Julio César Gómez, detailed several initiatives aimed at bolstering security, including the introduction of intelligent monitoring points and the arrest of individuals involved in illegal activities.

The enhanced security measures also involve strengthening security checkpoints, expanding surveillance on beaches, and increasing water and air surveillance. The addition of the surveillance cameras represents a 510% increase, and is expected to significantly enhance the safety of Cozumel.

The security strategy also includes intelligence operations that have led to the arrest of key individuals involved in illicit activities on the island. These measures are part of a broader plan to ensure the safety and protection of both residents and tourists in Cozumel.
