“Mexico Records Surge in Cruise Tourist Arrivals!”

In the initial three months of 2024, Mexican ports welcomed over 3 million cruise passengers. This figure marks a 1.4% increase from the same period in 2023, and an impressive 87.9% surge compared to 2022. Furthermore, the arrival of 945 cruises was recorded during this period.

The Mexican Secretary of Tourism revealed these statistics, citing data from INEGI and the Secretary of the Navy. The report also noted that foreign exchange income from these visits totaled $253.2 million, a 5.1% increase from the first quarter of 2023.

The ports of Cozumel, Mahahual, Ensenada, Cabo San Lucas, and Puerto Vallarta were the most frequented, accounting for 90.2% of all cruise passenger arrivals. Cozumel, Quintana Roo, stood out with 424 arrivals and over 1.45 million passengers, marking a 3.7% and 12.5% increase respectively from last year.

Mahahual, Quintana Roo, reported 166 arrivals and over 657,000 passengers, signifying a 14.5% increase in vessels and a 34.3% surge in passengers compared to the first quarter of 2023.

From January to March 2024, Ensenada, Baja California, saw 67 cruises bringing in over 201,000 passengers. Meanwhile, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, welcomed 58 vessels with a total of over 189,000 passengers. Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, recorded 55 cruise arrivals and over 177,000 passengers in the first quarter of the year.

Additional data revealed that cruise tourists' spending in Mexico during the first three months of 2024 generated a foreign exchange income of $253.2 million, a 5.1% increase from the same period in 2023. Furthermore, the average expenditure of cruise tourists rose to $83.8, a 3.6% increase from the $80.9 recorded in the first quarter of 2023.
