The Executive Secretariat of the State Citizen Security System (SESESC) is continuing its series of Peace and Voluntary Disarmament Fairs throughout various municipalities in Quintana Roo. The goal of these events is to foster a culture of peace and violence prevention from a young age. Following a successful event in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, the fairs are set to take place in Tulum and José María Morelos, where efforts will be intensified to promote a safe, weapon-free environment.
Adrián Martínez Ortega, the head of SESESC, announced that the Peace and Voluntary Disarmament Fairs will occur from November 11th to 13th in Tulum, and November 14th and 15th in José María Morelos. These events will be coordinated with the 34th Military Zone. The primary objective is to decrease the number of firearms among the populace by offering economic incentives for weapon exchange, thereby cultivating a culture of peace.
The Peace Fairs also aim to prevent firearm-related crimes, which pose a risk for violent crimes such as assaults and homicides, particularly among youth and children. The initiative includes a toy exchange program, where war toys can be swapped for non-violent alternatives. This campaign is a collaborative effort between the SESESC, the 34th Military Zone, and the Government of Quintana Roo.
