Piglets Gone Missing: Mystery at Progreso’s Pig Beach

A colorful sign reading "BIENVENIDOS VILLA PIG" over a cheerful statue of a pig under a clear blue sky.

Pig Beach, also known as Playa Cochinos, was a popular tourist spot for just over three years. This unique beach was home to eight resident piglets, the main attraction that drew visitors from all over. However, since Saturday, October 5, the piglets have been mysteriously absent. This was the day the beach was closed due to the impending threat of Hurricane Milton.

More than a month after the hurricane, Pig Beach remains closed due to the extensive damage caused by the storm. The beach, once a viral sensation due to its piglet residents, is now a quiet, deserted area. A local police officer is stationed at the site for surveillance, and the entrance is marked off with yellow tape to deter any potential trespassers.

Located opposite the Thirteenth Naval Zone, nestled between the Centro Vacacional Isstey beach resort and the official house of the Port Captain, Pig Beach was a popular family destination. It offered a variety of activities in the port and was known for its lively atmosphere. The current state of the beach is a stark contrast to its once vibrant past.
