The Dakatso Group is in the process of developing a pilot project for the first organic waste treatment plant in Solidaridad, with a focus on sargassum treatment. This initiative was shared during a press conference detailing an upcoming beach clean-up event at Punta Esmeralda on January 25th.
Dagoberto Javier Ruiz Lavín, a director of the Dakatso Group, shared that the plant will be situated on a 5-hectare plot at the entrance of the city. Preparations are already underway for the reception of the sargassum. "Our aim is to offer a more suitable treatment process that doesn't involve removing the beach sand with machines," he said.
The plant, which could be operational within two months, will separate the sargassum from the sand through various processes. The sand will then be returned to the beaches as part of a comprehensive project.
While the exact investment amount is not yet clear due to the project's pilot status, the company will be providing all the necessary infrastructure. However, they are actively seeking additional resources from the government or private entities.
The Dakatso Group began its sargassum treatment project in 2014 and has since expanded its infrastructure and knowledge base. This experience has enabled them to properly treat this marine algae and supply barriers for the Secretary of the Navy on multiple occasions.
