This Sunday, May 19, the cities of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Chetumal, and the island of Cozumel in Quintana Roo will join the nationwide "Pink Tide" march. The march aims to uphold "democracy, justice, and freedom" and promote the values of the "Republic". Participants are encouraged to wear white and/or pink clothing and carry a national flag.
The march is organized by "United for Mexico", a coalition of various civil society organizations. They anticipate thousands of people to participate in cities across the country.
In Cancun, the march will start at 10 a.m. at the El Ceviche roundabout and will proceed towards the Reforma square, located in front of the Municipal Palace. In Chetumal, participants will gather at 10 a.m. at the Museum of Mayan Culture and march towards the Explanada de la Bandera.
In Playa del Carmen, the march will start at 9 a.m. on 34th Street with Quinta Avenue and will head towards the 28th of July square, near the old Municipal Palace. The island of Cozumel will also join the "Pink Tide", with participants gathering at 8:30 a.m. at the Explanada de la Bandera.
The Fuerza y Corazón por Mexico coalition, which includes the PAN, PRI, and PRD parties, is also expected to be represented in the march in all four cities. This event will take place just before the third and final presidential debate, two weeks ahead of the June 2 elections.
