“Pink Tide March for Democracy: Join the Movement on May 19th!”

The National Civic Front has announced the "March for Democracy, Freedom, Peace, and Justice", also known as the "Pink Tide". The march is set to take place on May 19th at 10:00 a.m. in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Chetumal, along with numerous other cities across the country.

During a recent press conference in Cancun, Rosario Guerra, the coordinator of the National Civic Front, stated that the march is "in defense of Mexico and its democracy as a pillar of the current electoral process". She was joined by Mayuli Martínez, a senatorial candidate from the PAN-PRI-PRD alliance, and Jorge Rodríguez, a mayoral candidate for Benito Juarez from the same alliance.

Guerra stated that the demonstration would advocate for democracy and the continuation of the National Electoral Institute (INE). Furthermore, she announced a call to citizens to vote on June 2nd and to resist a "state-run election", which she alleges is being manipulated by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa in Quintana Roo.

"We call on all responsible citizens who love this country, and who want to once again have the opportunity to steer our country towards prosperity, development, and equality," Guerra emphasized. She also highlighted that the march is not just a national event, but will take place internationally, with more than 60 locations participating across the country, including Guadalajara, Monterrey, Puebla, and Queretaro.

Guerra expressed her desire for “a country with respect, equality, and justice, without censorship from the presidency". In response, she demanded that the current president, López Obrador, refrain from interfering in the elections, allowing citizens to vote freely on June 2nd.

Due to the intense heat, Guerra mentioned that the march might transform into gatherings at the squares of the municipal palaces of Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Chetumal. While she could not provide an estimate of how many supporters might attend the march, she expressed hope that it would be a "brief but numerous" demonstration.
