A Cessna aircraft, registered as XA-TDE, crashed into the sea just before reaching Cozumel airport. The plane was en route from Playa del Carmen, located in the municipality of Solidaridad. It's believed that an engine failure led to the aircraft's descent into the sea, close to the island of Las Golondrinas. Thankfully, marine rescue services have reported no injuries.

The aircraft now lies at the bottom of the sea. It was approximately 200 meters away from the airport when it fell, near the public beach known as Las Casitas. The plane, a Cessna type from the company RIVAIR, was being flown by pilot Samuel Menache Contreras. He was heading from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel when the incident occurred.

While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, initial reports suggest a mechanical failure. Official reports state that only the pilot was on board when the plane crashed. However, eyewitnesses and one Miguel Ángel Helguera Xix, who reportedly assisted the passengers, claim that the pilot was not alone. According to them, three female passengers were also on board, whom he helped to safety using nearby boats.

The civil aviation authority has launched an investigation into the accident. Read the full article here.
