Playa del Carmen, a popular tourist destination, is currently facing an environmental crisis due to the accumulation of over 10,000 tons of garbage on its streets. The new mayor, Estefanía Mercado, has taken swift action to address this pressing issue.

In response to the crisis, a contingency plan has been implemented. This includes extending the hours of trash collection, deploying 56 additional garbage trucks, and carrying out continuous cleanup efforts in the affected areas.

This situation presents not only a significant challenge but also an opportunity for the community of Playa del Carmen. It's a chance to demonstrate their commitment to the environment and to the well-being of their city.
