Beach 72 in Playa del Carmen, known for its pet-friendly policy, is set to update its regulations to further support animal welfare and promote responsible pet ownership. Orlando García, Director of Normativity and Environmental Impact Assessment, has announced that various stakeholders interested in animal welfare will be consulted in the reform of these rules.

Earlier this week, a meeting was held with members of organizations such as the Dog Beach collective. The purpose was to gather feedback on how to ensure the beach remains a safe and enjoyable space for both dogs and visitors to this section of the Playa del Carmen coastline.

The Beach 72 Regulation was established during the previous administration. However, both authorities and activists agree that it needs an update. Proposed changes include making leash use mandatory from the beach entrance and designating specific times when the beach is less crowded, allowing dogs to play freely without posing a risk to others.

The proposed regulation update will be shared with other organizations for feedback. In the coming weeks, it will be presented to the Cabildo for approval.
