Video surveillance cameras are being installed on the beaches of Playa del Carmen's hotel sector. These cameras will be linked to the C5 surveillance system, enhancing monitoring, prevention, and response to criminal activities. This initiative was announced by James Tobin Cunningham, the General Coordinator of the Citizen Security and Justice Boards of the State of Quintana Roo. He stated that this is part of the new security strategies to be implemented by the incoming 2024-2027 administration of Solidaridad, led by Estefanía Mercado.
Cunningham explained, "We need to bolster our security strategies. The hotel owners are investing in this collaborative video surveillance. The cameras, positioned on the hotels, will monitor the beaches and provide valuable information to the authorities."
In addition to this, Cunningham mentioned a program that has been in progress in Villas del Sol for several months, known as "Being Neighborhood". This program will be further strengthened under the leadership of Estefanía Mercado. "Being Neighborhood" aims to facilitate the use of public spaces for communities that are susceptible to crime. The program provides necessary tools and resources for communities to create activities of their own interest. These activities promote cultural engagement, fostering a sense of identity and belonging, encouraging communities to take care of their environment.
