“Shocking Extortion Scandal Rocks Playa Del Carmen Business Owners”

Business owners in Playa Del Carmen have called on the State Attorney General's Office to investigate and potentially prosecute a group of individuals alleged to be extorting drivers in shopping plazas. The accused individuals claim that the drivers' cars are listed in "theft reports".

Concern is growing among the business community that these extortion incidents could discourage both tourists and locals from visiting the shopping malls where this supposed group of extortionists operates. Information shared on social media by alleged victims suggests that these individuals target motorists in front of popular shopping centers like Centro Maya. They approach drivers with a list of "theft reports" that supposedly include their vehicles.

The alleged scheme works like this: three or four individuals approach a driver, claiming to be recovering stolen vehicles. They then tell the driver that they are under arrest because their car matches the description of a vehicle listed in a theft report.
